Tokyo Design Week 2009: Furnish

Japanese design duo Satoshi Yoshikawa and Bungo Komuro - Furnish - base their philosophy on taking 'an ordinary item and transforming it into something that is not only practical, but fun to use', and they succeed admirably. Take, for example, the Bottle Vase (pictured) which transforms an ordinary wine bottle into a vase by way of an EVA cover, available in eight colours.

Not only is their take on design original, but Furnish also utilise local manufacturers and artisans to produce their products, thereby avoiding mass-production and also supporting local industries.
