Lithuanian designer and design expert Andrej Statskij is something of a rare breed - a designer from Eastern Europe who works not only for European companies and customers, but also for companies and customers from East and South-East Asia. 'I am cosmopolitan and for me it is very important to know that my designs and design services can be interesting for customers from around the world,' says the designer, 'Asia can now offer very big possibilities for European designers, especially for young designers. Therefore I am trying to establish strong connections in the Asian market and with Asian companies.'
It appears that he already has his foot well in the door - furniture manufacturers, trade companies and design agencies from China, Malaysia and Thailand already use his services and he now intends to extend his reach into the Japanese design market. In pursuit of that goal, Andrej is producing a furniture series for several Asian companies and hopes that 'the series can be successful in the Asian and world market.' Why such an interest in Asian design? 'I am sure that collaboration between European and Asian design professionals will create the future of design," Andrej says, and he may just be right.
