Jean Nouvel's contribution to the Saadiyat Island development in Abu Dhabi will be the first branch of The Louvre in the Persian Gulf, it has been revealed. The governments of France and Abu Dhabi signed a 30-year, $1.3 billion, agreement which covers the use of the name and also extends to the loan of artworks from the Louvre's collection.

This issue is quite controversial here in France. Many people think that 'hiring out' The Louvre is very much cheapening its image. But, as an architect myself, I'm more interested in the Jean Nouvel's design which I think looks like something from Star Wars.
