Hokkaido Tokai University
Creativity is thriving up north, it would seem, and the piece that stood out for me from this impressive collection was the rather nifty chair pictured above, designed by Yuta Horio.
Kyoto City University of Arts
I really like the 'Tumiki' table and stool by Yuuki (or Hiroki - it depends on how you read the kanji '裕紀') Masuda. It looks great up close and I can't imagine how much work went into it. I'd love one of these in my house, and my apologies to the designer if I got his name wrong.
Anabuki Design College Hiroshima
Another impressive collection, but my favourite was this set of seats by Keiko Okada. Simple and very stylish - just the kind of design I love.
Kyoto Saga University of Arts
KSU is the second Kyoto-based university to make it onto the list as I couldn't resist the seat designed by Tatsuya Yamada from the Department of Tourism Design. Incorporating a map of the world into the 'love' design and using two materials I like - metal and grass (if you can class grass as a material) - I hope it's not too long before we see these benches being used for real.
Waseda University
I've never really associated Waseda University with design, for some reason (maybe because most people I know who have studied there took business or something similar), but I really enjoyed their exhibition. My favourite piece was the 'Vascular Chair', above, although I couldn't see who it was designed by. If it was you, or you know who designed it, please let me know!
