As I mentioned yesterday, I did drive out to have a look at the new Lalaport out in Chiba. Unfortunately, the car parks were full - despite the fact that it doesn't officially open until tomorrow - so I couldn't get any pictures. I was, however, given a map (above) giving directions to and from the shopping centre, which were being handed out to the hundreds of drivers queueing up to get in. I found this kind of odd as everybody had already made it there (presumably without a map) and there were lots of people on hand waving flashing batons to tell you where to go. Unless you live close, or being surrounded by thousands of people in a confined area is your idea of fun, I'd leave it for a while before making the trip there. Driving to and from the complex, however, I couldn't help but notice how much woodland has been destroyed to make way for this and other construction work that is taking place.
After that little adventure, I decided to carry on driving as it's a beautiful day here. I drove out to Noda, which - incidentally - is where the last surviving ninja plies his trade (seriously), where I spotted this quite beatuiful pedestrian bridge.
I don't know who the designer/engineer behind it is, but it's constructed almost entirely out of wood and is very impressive to look at. It's also very pleasant to stroll across and blends in very nicely with the surrounding area - unlike other things I could mention.
